The Dead We Knew FPS Mode: Is There First-Person? (TBC)

FILED: 2026-08-12 // CLEARANCE: PUBLIC

Short answer: a The Dead We Knew FPS mode has not been confirmed, and neither has any other camera perspective. No official material from MAY19 STUDIO — the Steam store page, the Steam API data or media coverage — ever states whether the game is first-person, third-person or offers a switchable view. Until the developer says otherwise, the honest answer is TBC.

What the Official Materials Say

Nothing, literally. We reviewed every piece of text the developer has published: the store description, the feature list, the announcement coverage from Korean outlet Inven in July 2026, and the Steam API metadata. None of them mention a camera perspective, an FPS mode or a third-person view.

Context matters here. MAY19 STUDIO is a new Korean studio, THE DEAD WE KNEW: Open World Survival is its first and only game, and its entire public presence is one Steam page — no website, no confirmed social media. The studio has communicated exactly once, through Inven, and that announcement covered the release window, the price and language support. Camera perspective simply never came up.

That silence cuts both ways. It means you should not trust any site claiming the game "is an FPS" — but you should be equally skeptical of anything calling it definitively third-person. The game launches September 17, 2026, and the perspective question may simply be answered at release.

The Tag Evidence: Leaning Third-Person

The only concrete evidence available comes from SteamDB, which records the user-defined tags applied to the game on Steam. Those tags include "Third-Person Shooter" and "Third Person" — and there is no "FPS" tag among them. The rest of the popular tag list — Open World, Exploration, Survival, Zombies, Sandbox and Action — matches the store page's own genre description, which lends the tag set some credibility.

User tags are community-applied, not developer-confirmed, so they are evidence rather than proof. Players who watched the official gameplay trailer apparently came away with a third-person impression. On balance, the game is more likely third-person than first-person — but this remains TBC until MAY19 STUDIO confirms it.

What We Know About Combat Itself

While the camera is unknown, the combat context is not. Two enemy types are confirmed: infected zombies, which become more aggressive as visibility drops and attack from darkness and fog, and hostile AI-controlled human survivors, who may become allies or enemies depending on the encounter. Night raises the danger level across the board.

The game is tagged as a shooter, and its listed genres are Action, Adventure, RPG and Simulation, so firearms are clearly part of the loop alongside melee, base defense and the survival systems. Co-op for up to four players adds a team dimension to fights — exploring, defending and building together. Steam's mature content description underlines what combat involves: violence and blood, fights against zombies and hostile humans, and the hunting, butchering and cooking of animals. The game holds age ratings of 14+ in Brazil, USK 16 in Germany and 18+ in Indonesia. What is not confirmed: PvP of any kind, and how aiming, weapon types or gunplay feel in practice.

Reasonable Expectations — Clearly Labeled Speculation

This section is inference, not fact. If the user tags are right and the game is third-person, expect an over-the-shoulder camera similar to most modern survival games, where base building and character visibility matter. A dedicated FPS mode on top of that would be unusual for a small studio's first title.

If first-person support exists at all, the most plausible form is an optional toggle rather than a separate "mode". But to be clear: there is zero official information supporting either scenario. Treat this paragraph as informed guessing and nothing more.

The TBC Checklist

Open questions about the game's perspective, as of August 2026:

  • Camera perspective (first-person, third-person or switchable) — TBC, leaning third-person per user tags.
  • A dedicated FPS mode — TBC, no official mention.
  • PvP — TBC, no official statement; enemies shown so far are AI-controlled.
  • Aiming mechanics and weapon handling — TBC, beyond the shooter tag.

We will update this page the moment MAY19 STUDIO publishes anything definitive. Until then, the official Steam page is the only authoritative source.
